Three formerly secret patent applications for crypto machines
by William Friedman (filed 1933 and 1936) and Laurance Safford
and Donald Seiler (filed 1944) were issued as patents in 2000 and
assigned to the National Security Agency.

Friedman's patents refer to his earlier patents in 1925 and
1936 which are available as images only at the US Patent
Office.
It has been suggested that the patents refer to the Sigaba
machine. Opinion on whether this true or the devices
shown are other models is invited.
