About the two women who were horrified when they were told about the "Men
of" part:
We are Alpha Phi Omega, a National Service Co-ed Service FRATERNITY.
A fraternity has BROTHERS.
Brothers are not always men, but usually referred to in that manner.
Groups are usually referred to in conversation as GUYS not matter what the
make up of the group (all male, all female, mixed).
If we remove the "Men of" to prevent the possibility of offending someone,
then why stop there, lets call ourselves
Alpha Phi Omega, a National Service Service CLUB.
My point is, when you pledge a FRATERNITY, you expect some male
overtones. If people will not serve because they do not want to be
referred to as a brother, then I question their sincerity.
If this was a Co-ed Service Soroiety I do not think that these changes
would be taking place. (Call sexist opinion, I can handle it)
My point being, you join an organization to be a part of it, not to
change it to what you want it to be.
