Obviously, due to the messages I received, my post did not clear things up.
I was trying to save bandwidth so I didn't quote the original poster. Here
it is...
On 23 Feb 1995, Jason Jones <jjones@CAPITAL.EDU> posted:
"Alpha Alpha Lambda: Alcorn State Univ'ty--Was another one of those "go
inactive
and be social" situations. Got their charter revoked in Sept. '93 after a
shooting incident kills a pledge. This made for bad PR w/the fraternity.
There is an article in USA Today about hazing and mentions this incident
(January 3, 1994)."
On 24 Feb 1995, I responded with:
"I just thought that readers of APO-L should know that Alpha Alpha Lambda
chapter at Alcorn State University has been inactive since 1988 (source:
Alpha Phi Omega History Book). While a shooting incident really did occur,
it did not involve active brothers and pledges of this Fraternity."
(end of reposted info)
We discussed this topic extensively on APO-L over a year ago. Apparently,
some students at Alcorn State were pretending to be brothers of an active
chapter of our Fraternity. A non-student shot one of their pledges during
some hazing activity (something requiring the pledge to steal property from
someone's porch). This did cause a PR problem with our Fraternity since it
was reported in the media. The important thing to remember is that the
chapter at Alcorn State University had been inactive since 1988, so those
involved could not have been active members or pledges of Alpha Phi Omega.
I hope this really clears it up.
In Brotherhood,
Greg
