I am not attempting to put Elliot Echlov down or anything of the sort, but
rather trying to get ideas rolling about this topic. I am an Alumni
of the Nu Lambda Chapter in Section 91, Region II. Ever since I was
a brother in that section, there has been concern about the orginal chapter
NOT active. On a number of occassions the Nu Lambda and surrounding
chapters have made attempts to re-activate the chapter.
From my stand point, there just has been not interest on the campus.
I am not sure if our methods of attack were strong enough or not. I am not
about to evaluate one way or the other. I would like to hear some ideas on
how other chapters have re-activated non=active chapters. From my knowledge
the attempts that were made to re-active the Alpha chpater have been as
such. Arrange informational sessions about APO on the campus. Offers to
students there to attend service projects. Attend and setup a table at
the organizational fair the college hosts.
I have learned that one important thing to have with starting a new
chapter is to have a strong willing contact person. I have seen this at
work in and out of my section. My feeling is there is no one person that
is willing or if willing has the time required to put the proper amount
effort/work in being the contact person. Now, before I get flamed on that
last sentence let me say first it is only a feeling. And second my knowledge
about if one is willing or not is very limited. So if there is or knows
of any one who is in the area and willing to be a contact person let me know.
I will be willing to pass it onto the sectional chair or to chapters within
the section. If I recall the new 91 sectional chair is on APO-L. Oh, if
any one notices my address, no I do not think I am close enough. It is a
long distance call from Bethlehem/Allentown, PA. Also do to certain
circumstances I am not permitted to drive.
So in summary, I would like to say, send me your ideas about how to
form interest at the college where the Alpha chapter was founded, Aand keep
the new ones coming. I highly believe one reason and not the only why
APO has a strong interchapter bond is because of this list, APO-L.
Thank you...
Graham Mehl
