Hi everyone,

Personally, beyond our bylaws, I believe that we should not be part of Greek
Councils and other such groups; my reason is not one that you read about in the
bylaws, but one that, IMHO, simply makes sense.

We were founded by a group of men from different backgrounds, including members
of social greek fraternities. We have no rules prohibiting our members from
being part of social greek organizations, and we have quite a few double or even
triple (social and honorary greek affiliation plus A Phi O) brothers/sisters
across the nation.

Most social greek organizations forbid memberships in similar organizations to
their own (do you know any undergrads who are active members of 2 social
fraternities or sororities simultaneously?). We share some things in common, but
we are a completely different type of organization - not better or worse, just
different. We complement the social greek system and the campus clubs, but we
are unique and really do not belong in either category. Schools sometimes force
us into those categories, either because they do not understand us or because it
is more convenient for them to do so, but we do not voluntarily place ourselves
in either of those categories.

We set ourselves off specifically to ATTRACT people from all over the campus who
share our principles, whether they are social greeks, club members, or members
of some other group (or no group at all). If we are put in any one category,
that can misidentify us to a campus. That is one of the reasons I always tell
students to do their best to avoid being pigeon-holed into a category or group
on campus, whether it is a greek council or a campus club list.

When a campus realizes our true uniqueness, when a chapter attracts pledges from
all over the campus, regardless of other affiliations, that is when a chapter
truly represents its school and thus, serves it best (again, IMHO).
