"Anyone besides me sub to APO-L back when it was the only list and the
likes of Chris Gellasch, Scott Begin (still active on APO-L), Greg
Wimpey, Johanna Wise, Ellen Kranzer (runs APO-L now), Kevin "Mosquito"
Iga, Lisa Covi, Holly someone, etc. were on-line?"
Yes, I'm still on line (and comment every once in a while). Of the
names mentioned, I know Chris Gellasch posted something recently (using
an account from Indiana University), although he is now out in Kansas
(and I think he is working with the Kansas State University, Pi
Chapter). The other old timer from my era is Doug "Lefty" Coffmann,
from Michigan Tech, Epsilon Lambda Chapter. He lost his email access
last fall after graduation, but is still active in APO, as he is living
in Houghton.
"I joined in November, 1989, when the list was
about 1.5 years old and there were about 40 subscribers. Message load
generally was about 1-5 messages a day! 10 was a flood!!!"
I joined in September of 1989. The biggest power of the list I remember
from the time was finding out about the death of Carl Long, who was the
fall semester pledge class namesake. I also remember logging in to my
account and finding 7 mail messages (came in over about 24hrs). I
wondered what happened, but it was one post about "Send post cards to
this kid who wants to set a world record for largest post card
collection" and 6 replys indicating it was a hoax.
Brings back memories...Although this winter, the traffic on APO has gone
down quite a bit.
