To add to Jeff Woodford's comments about Kappa chapter's policy about
DSK's, from what I can tell we usually give DSK's to brothers from our
chapter who have served the chapter in an extraordinary way. This
generally means that the recipient has been involved with the chapter
even after graduation. We haven't given out a DSK since the 80's, and
as far as has been recorded, in our 66 year history four DSK's have
been given out (though I'm sure there have been more). Namely Carl J.
Long, our founder, Kent D. Schaffer who kept our chapter alive during
WWII, someone I can't remember at the moment, and Chris Walton (our
current pledge class namesake) for outstanding leadership both as an
active and an advisor and CAC. I'm sure the older dogs could remember
more DSK recipients, but those are the one's that I've heard about.

It isn't that we don't think people deserve to receive a DSK, just
that it is a very serious award, and committment to the chapter, the
fraternity and the Cardinal principles must be outstanding to be a
recipient.

That's all I know.

In L,F, and S,
Christa
