Looking for help in explaining to our Student Government Association why
they should give us funds to attend the Regional Conferences in
February. I'm sure many of you out there receive funds from SGA or other
sources for these things and was hoping you can help :-)

* First of all, our sga makes little sense in their allocation of
funding. I know this for I am a senator. One week they give $400 to one
person and the next they say $500 to just five people is too much when
the conferences sound just as worthy.

* Secondly, we just got recognized this past week... All group status
changes are voted on by senate. A group first gets registered, has to
wait about 16 school weeks then can apply for recognized status. We
almost didn't get recognized with one of the big complaints being we were
just doing it to get money. dah! The only difference between the two is
the money factor.

* We are asking for $600 for transportation for 13 members (brothers and
pledges) and 2 advisors. This is the cost of renting a 15 passenger van
from motor pool and includes gas to Denver, CO.

* Overall cost guesses will be $600 + $480 (rooms) + $520 (registration)
for a total of $1600. ...about $125 per person if no help... note: these
number may being expanded as exact conference cost not known at this time.

* We do not plan on doing fund raisers for this event, but that could
change. We aren't too keen on fundraiser and would rather pay out of
pocket.

NOW FOR YOUR HELP!!!

SGA asked a number of questions of groups coming in. I could use much
help on some good answers. ESPECIALLY on first three questions!

(1) What is the purpose of the conference?

(2) What will the rest of the student body gain by you all going to this
conference?

(3) What will you being doing at conference?

-----

(4) How much will people pay out of pocket?

(5) Have you tried other sources or fundraiser? - answer no to both, but
what's a good open answer.

(6) Why should we give you this money?

(7) What is your budget?

(8) The conference isn't till February, why are you applying for funds now?

(9) Why isn't your group paying anything? (note: we have $15 dues)

Once again, any help would be appreciated. I plan to copy answer to some
of above on bill handed out to all senators.
