One of my favorite ways to advertise and brag about Alpha Phi Omega is to
say we are "Achieving Leadership and Friendship through Service." I
think I got that out of one of the "an Opportunity for you " books, but
am not sure. Recently there was a lot of discussion on the list about
all 3 cardinal principles being equally weighted, but I disagree. I
joined this fraternity because it is a "Service Fraternity". I think
Brother Liston was questioning why we refer to ourselves as a "service
fraternity" if we really consider all cardinal principles to be equal.
If we truly believe that all cardinal principles should be equal, then
why don't we refer to ourselves as the "leadership, friendship, and
service fraternity." Make no mistake, I am much more in favor of us
describing ourselves as a Service Fraternity, but I do not feel that all
of the principles have equal weight. I think the leasdership and
friendship are bonuses that come with doing service as a group.

In Brotherhood,
Caroline
