The major considerations for holding National Convention during the
week between Christmas and New Years are not really financial. I
have served as a sectional chair, and trying to coordinate
conferences around school schedules that involve schools on a quarter
system and semester systems is difficult. It would be almost
impossible to find any time other than the week between Christmas and
New Years when almost every school has a holiday. Holding convention
during this time, although it might be inconvenient for some, allows
the largest majority of students to have the opportunity to attend
without missing school. This time also allows the fraternity to
negotiate very good hotel rates because there is almost no
competition from other groups for hotels. I attend several
professional meetings during the year and no group ever gets as good
of a hotel rate as APhiO.
