That is Columbia, South Carolina and Columbus, Ohio. The phone number for the
Columbus program is 614-224-9569.
Brothers,
I'm going to use Chris' info about City Year to make a plug for AmeriCorps in
general. AmeriCorps is a great opportunity for all brothers interested in doing
more service outside of APO. Brothers who are graduating might be interested
in a full-time (minimum 1700 hours) position, while brothers still in school
could do a part-time (minimum 900 hours) position over 1-3 years (depends on
program) One of the nice things about serving in AmeriCorps is that you receive
some financial benefits in return for the service. While serving you receive a
modest living allowance (that is not supposed to be considered income when
determining financial aid for school), you also can defer most college loans
while serving (and receive forbearance on the interest that accrues while
serving), and at the completion of service you qualify for an educational
award that is to be used to pay back student loans or finance college, grad
school, or vocational training. (Individuals serving full-time also are
eligible for Health Insurance).
If you are interested in finding out more about AmeriCorps or about programs
in your area, you call AmeriCorps at 1-800-94-ACORPS or you can drop me a line
back.
Yours in LFS,
Howard Wolf
