"I have been following the discussion about the creation of an alumni
brother directory and would like to offer the following temporary
solution. Any chapter that wants to publish their alumni list can email
it to me and I will create a WWW site. It may take me a while to get it
looking nice and to build a search engine, but I will do it."

Before you get too far into this, you may to check with the National
Office to see if this is OK.

The reason I mention it is that if a chapter has received it's alumni
list from the National Office, it the list would have been accompanied
by the following disclaimer (or something similar):

"It is against our National Bylaws to use membership records for
advertising purposes, so please do not disclose the information for this
purpose...."

By putting this type of information on a public WWW site, it could be
considered disclosing the information, especially if any type of address
or geographic information is included (even if just a city and state).

Although it may seem unlikely, a non APO member could find the site
(using WWW search tools), get the names / addresses and sell as a
mailing list. Even the names of your members could be considered
"Membership records."

I do know that this makes it hard for students to look up other brothers
as a contact, but if it is to be published, I favor putting it either in
a book form or something else that can be a little more controled.
Check with Pat Burke before proceeding.
