what's a mugging?

just thought I'd ask...
we do things like "pin checks" when we see pledges during the day - but
we've never caught one without it for so long.... usually if we catch
a pledge it's only once and we give them good natured kidding about
forgetting.... that's usually enough to get them to wear it....
now however this does not work... and it's been so long we've forgotten
the punishment for not wearing the pin (and unfortunately due to
extenuating circumstances of which there is not room to explain - we
do not have the process documented).
any ideas?
