A pledge becomes a neophyte when they have been accepted/voted upon to
become a brother, but have not yet gone through the ceremony.
Here at Frostburg, we have a 8 week pledge period. Then we vote on who
will become a brother. The week between that vote and the initiation
ceremony, they are neophytes.
