Concerning a post by Richard Vehlow about providing ``numbers'' about our convention, here's something to remember.

The hotels and convention industry are in business to make money and they have access to plenty of information on our fraternity and its past conventions.

While exploring the possibility of putting together a bid for
Cincinnati in 1998, the Cincy CVB had all of our fraternity convention data going back to the early 1980s, including the number of participants, the hotel, the numbers of rooms used, how much was spent in the restaurants and bars and other businesses
near the hotel, how many were seated and fed for the banquets, what the rates were, etc. My last contact with the CVB was last fall, but I'm sure that as technology continues to be improved, more of this data will be shared in other cities. they know the
bottom line and cooperation will go along way with these folks.

Just thought I'd pass that on as all of you are thinking about future convention bids. Good luck.

In brotherhood,

Ed Richter
Past Section 57 Chair
1996 SRW Coordinator.
