One note for many things

Just playing a quick game of catch-up here please bear with me.

Convention 2000:
To be honest it sounds like bids are already halfway being
written:) Even by people from different areas:) I like some of the
ideas coming out of that discussion. True scheduling will be a problem,
but when is it not? We do have a kind of tricky time slot in my opinion,
maybe I'm wrong....What I think is really cool though is that it falls
into the area that is closest to our founding site (if I read the many
messages already posted correctly) It is an important time in our
history, let's try and remember the people who are hosting have to want
to host, and we can't know this until the time comes. My only
recomendation is that those chapters interested get together and start
now, (maybe the whole area can work on it?) Get the interest up now and
barring any burn out or major catastrophe enthusiasm (sp?) should be at a
fairly high level. The earlier the hard part is done the easier the
actual event will run.

National Service Day
I guess the one real question I have, and I believe it might of
been mentioned, is why focus on one day? It was already mentioned, but
why not a whole length of time (i.e. a week or month), not only for the
scheduling factor as has been the main trip up as I understand it, but
since we are a brotherhood of service I really don't think a day is an
appropriate length of time to promote one of the main points of our
being...service...maybe have one day in that time frame to celebrate what
we are about (I guess sorta like Scout Sunday)but a build up of
things to that point. A day that we can gather as chapters, sections,
regions, whatever and just reflect upon what we have done and make sure
we are filling in the footprints that have been laid before us.

Athletics, Academics, and APO
Well what can I say but school is definitely more important than
anything else here. Most of our attendance at meetings is pledges. I'd
like to think this is because everyone else is off studying:) Other
than the fact that we look at our classes in terms of time in lab rather
than listed hours, and our overall participation is rather low I can't
really say much. I sometimes get the feeling that most people in my
chapter are looking for the resume aspect of being a member.

My own problem:
As I stated before I feel that most of the members in my chapter
are resume fillers. I am really frustrated at this and need some
advice. One of the problems is they all join "representing a house", all
the social greeks on campus nominate a couple members from their house to
join, others may join also but this whole nominating thing is kind of
weird. For example, at the end of this past winter semester I sent out a
list of the new officers for the fall, I listed the name, their e-mail
address, and if they lived in a social greek house that. Well apparently
a couple of people were upset because I didn't list one of the officers
as representing their local social greek organization and informed this
officer of their displeasure at being left out (this group does not have
a house), that officer then told me, so I sent out a general apology and
all stating that I had done this as a way for people to know an easy way
to get a hold of some of the officers. But still are there any other
chapters out there in this situation, or have been this way in the past?

If I haven't made myself clear in any of the above parts please let me
know, I tend to write only about 15% of what I think or mean. And if any
of the above comments are innacurate I apologize, I was commenting on
many different notes from the past couple of weeks, so memory is a liitle
hazy.
