I think Roll Call is fine just the way it is. If you give it its separate
event, as in the 1992 Covention's opening nite, then people know what to
expect.
How about this: although many of us would want to sit through the whole thing,
there may be people who would rather not be there the whole time. So,
segment it. Like say "7:00: Roll Calls begin with Alpha Chapter". Then,
"8:00: Roll Calls continue starting with Mu Alpha chapter."."At 9:00, Roll
Calls continue with Psi Alpha Chapter." At 10:00, "Roll Call concludes,
starting with Alpha Gamma Alpha Chapter...". At the same time, some other
activity or set of activities are going on elsewhere. That way, people can be
off doing what they want to do, and pop in to sing and/or see certain parts
of the competition. besides, spreading it out in a scheduled segmented format
like that also allows for 10-15 minute breaks every hour where people can
stretch their legs, get refreshments, use the tiolet, tune up, etc.
Then, Announce the winner(s) the next night at the fellowship banquet, and
allow them to perform an encore at the awards banquet two nights later.
So what do you think?
