Greetings:
Tonight I sit here at my computer for what may be my very last
time as a student outside the "real world" of work. So, upon all this
contemplation and consideration, I wish to offer you all some words of
wisdom and some words of thought as I leave the realm of student life and
enter a new post in life.
Tonight, I want to reflect on my six years of being a Brother of
Alpha Phi Omega. However, before I begin, I want to say thanks to
everyone, my friends, my professors, my loved one, my big, my little, my
grandlittles, and anyone else I have failed to thank before, thank you
one and thank you all.
Tonight is a special occasion. I am about to leave Pittsburgh and
go forth toward the land of Delaware. In just a few hours I will be
making a turn down a new set of roads and highways, leaving a state behind
that has educated, clothed, and made me the person I am today. In a few
hours, I will be leaving a town, to a town full of possibilities and
opportunities and adventures. Such is my quest ahead.
Many of you know my commitment to Alpha Phi Omega runs quite
strong. Well tonight I plan to make that commitment quite pronounced. I
believe we are a fraternity. We are a family. We are dedicated servants,
loyal friends, and quality leaders. We are true to self and to each
other. We are prepared, mobilized to action, progressive to motive and
humble to passion. We are an entity and we are a chain. We are Alpha
Phi Omega.
Taking the cardinal principles, leadership friendship and service,
I wish to expound on their implications and dedications to which we all
should strive to meet. Leadership is an ability for which we are to
measured, we may not start out as leaders right away, but as we learn by
following, we learn to lead. Friendship is is our pride, we all come to
join in hope of meeting new friends, some turn to lovers and some turn to
enemies, but some will forever be our bestest of friends and fondest of
fellows. Service is our cause, we would be nothing without it, yet we are
everything with it, here we stand as the leader among others in providing
service above self and service to all endeavors.
I would hope to write more tonight, being the last message, but
instead I would like to leave you all with one last quote from my mind
and my heart.
"Look Upon The Air, The Land, and The Sea"
by Hayim Seth Weiss
Look upon the air, the land and the sea.
Know the truth has made you free.
In Leadership, Friendship, and Service is our call,
Know the beauty of it all.
Look upon the air, the land and the sea.
Know the Leaders have taught you to be.
In Leadership, Friendship, and Service is our call,
Know that one day you will lead them all.
Look upon the air, the land and the sea.
Know the Friends have made you be.
In Leadership, Friendship, and Service is our call,
Know that big or little you are one to all.
Look upon the air, the land and the sea.
Know the Service have aided you to be.
In Leadership, Friendship, and Service is our call,
Know your heart and you will be able to aid them all.
Look upon the air, the land and the sea.
Know the truth will always make you free.
In Leadership, Friendship, and Service is our call,
Now you know the beauty of it all.
Dedicated to Alpha Phi Omega
