Well, I've been paying attention to this latest, "amendment," and I also
do remember the discussion regarding the separation of APO-L and
APOSOC-L, so here are my two cents:
Personally, I think that 4 listservs are way too many for any fraternity
(especially if they are on four different mail servers!!). Could you
imagine that kind of confusion?!?! First of all, the APOLEGIS listserv
would be a temporary listserv and would disappear after the 96
convention. It would only be a response to the increased traffic
resulting from the national convention, as we have seen. So I really
don't think we need a totally separate listserv here.
Separating announcements from general discussion is completely ridiculous
(sp?), especially when you consider the fact that a lot of discussion is
spawned from a specific announcement of something. I also don't feel
that the total traffic/messages between the two categories don't warrant
the necessity for two listservs. I do feel, however, that APOSOC-L
should remain a separate entity, as the traffic from APOSOC-L alone
definitely justifies its existence.
One one alternative suggestion to APO-L would be to start a voluntary
subject line, "amendment," whereas brothers would voluntarily write
certain pre-determined subject headings like:
RE: ANNOUNCE: Congratulations to the New Officers of such and such chapter!!
RE: CONVENTION: Airline flight information
RE: TOAST-SONG: Let's change the toast song,... again!!
This would allow readers to scroll through their e-mail messages and sort
through which articles they want to read and which articles to delete.
Similar voluntary posting guidelines have been tried in various usenet
newsgroups with moderate success. To advertise/enforce these guidelines,
we may consider making an APO-L FAQ (which already sort of exists) including
this information.
Therefore, I would have to vote against the motion to split APO-L,
however if y'all consider this post to be an, "amendment" to the
proposal, then I would vote for the amended proposal.
