There are a few problems Ive heardof with Circle-K and APO on the same
campus, but they are certainly solvable.
1) If one already exists on campus and the other tries to come on the
campus then the group which approves new student organizations may say
that since there is already a general community service group on campus,
why have another. This can get particularly bad if the same person
represents both.
2) Overlap in membership. There will certainly be people for whom joining
both Circle-K and APO is the right thing to do, but I'd think it a concern
if (long term)more than half of either's membership was people who
belonged to the other group. OTOH, this would also be a concern if more
than half of the APO members were Sigma Alpha Epsilon (yes, I know more
than half the founders were SAE.)
The strange thing is that I don't really have that much first hand
knowledge on this. None of the schools with APO chapters in my section
have Circle-K and circle-K started at my alma mater after I left.
Howeverif people want to get involved with Community service and APO is
not for them, then it is good to have alternatives.
