The thoughts expressed on advisors are good ones, and there is a place is
most, if not all, chapters for advisors who are alumni. These dedicated
brothers can be of much assistance.
That being said, however, I want to remind everyone that alumni advisors
should not be used to the *exclusion* of faculty/administration
advisors. These folks are professional educators and bring much to the
table that others may not bring. After all, the primary mission of an
advisor is to educate. These advisors, in addition to providing unique
insights, can be a link to the school administration that few alumni can
provide.
So, let's keep both alumni and faculty advisors in mind as we discuss
what we want/need from advisors. Let us not also forget a scouting
(Girl, Boy, Campfire, etc) and community service advisors as well. Think
what a balanced advisory committee could do for your chapter.
