OK, all you geography buffs, informal Fraternity historians, trivia masters,
and other interested people. Region X, in our continuing efforts to try new
and innovative things, have another change in sectional boundaries to
include on all of the official (and unofficial) Fraternity maps.
Effective November 1, 1996, Section 14 will be split into two sections:
Section 10: Southern Idaho - Take the Oregon/Washington border, and draw a
line due east to the Montana state line. Everything below that line to the
Idaho/Utah border will henceforth be known as Section 10. Beth Tom has been
appointed as the Acting Section 10 Chair effective November 1.
Section 13: The State of Utah. Matthew Troth has been appointed as the
Acting Section 13 Chair effective November 1.
For those of you who keep track of things like this, you may be
asking..."But Section 14 doesn't have any chapters, why split into two
sections with no chapters?" Good question. The answer lies in our strong
desire to establish chapters in Idaho and Utah, and our desire to recruit
volunteers to cover more workable sections. As currently formed, Section 14
is geographically challenged (or in other words, too big). Smaller sections
will make it easier for us to recruit and retain volunteers who won't have
to cover such a huge area, and they can focus their efforts to establish
chapters at the various campuses in their immediate areas. In other words,
volunteers would only have to drive a maximum of 3-4 hours to get to a
campus rather than 6-8 hours.
