The National Office mailed out the convention legislation packets last week.
Your chapter should be getting it in the next several days, if it hasn't
already. If your chapter doesn't get the legislation packet, contact the
National Office.
I've gotten a couple of messages lately that seem to indicate some people
are under the impression that they shouldn't discuss the issues that will be
voted on at the National Convention on this list -- that's not true, this is
a good place to discuss legislation with one exception -- rituals. APO-L is
a public list so discussions of the confidential rituals shouldn't take
place on it.
Some things to think about:
1. The final legislation that reaches the floor may not be indentical to
what was proposed. There's a concept called "scope" which basically means
that changes have to fall into the range between what is proposed and what
we have now. For example, an ammendment has been proposed to raise AAMDs to
$12 (don't hold me to the number, I don't have the list in front of me).
AAMDs are currently set at $8. That means that the convention can choose to
set the dues anywhere in the range $8-12 and still be within the scope of
the proposal.
2. Some of the issues will provoke heated debate. Keep it polite. Even if
you disagree strongly with what is being said.
3. A lot of 'me too' posts are annoying. If you post, try to bring
something new to the discussion.
