To throw in my two cents on the Scouting discussion:
First and foremost, to Deb Gallagher, Cindy Strawbridge, and all the other
Gold and Silver Award Holders, I am not going to say that various brothers,
chapters, and even the fraternity as a whole, have not given you the credit,
respect, and honor that should come with those awards, but I do believe that
APO as an organization has begun to recognize this fact. I would suggest that
one of you (I'd do it myself but I'm far from an expert!) submit an article for
the Torch and Trefoil, the Lightbearer (convention newspaper), or Chapter
Update that can educate the Fraternity about GSUSA (including history; ideals;
"levels" - i.e. Brownies, Cadettes, Juniors, Seniors; ranks & awards). I think
this could do wonders at helping to eliminate the ignorance that most of the
brotherhood has.
Second, I do believe that the fraternity's purpose as currently stated does have
circular logic in it. I believe that the need for the change in 1994 had
merit, however I believe the suggestion made the other day of revising it
again to state that our principals are derived from the Scout Oath and Law,
gives justice to the past, gets rid of the circular logic, and should meet both
APO and BSA's needs.
