Let's be very specific here: based on the current interpretation of the
National Bylaws, all-male chapters are not in violation because we give
them the right of chapter selection through the clause in Article III,
Section 1 which states "upon the approval of the respective collegiate
chapter." We, as a Fraternity, have allowed some chapters to not approve
individuals who are women.
The motion proposed (R-5) is designed to strip that right of those
chapters, which would change interpretation of the National Bylaws, thus
putting them in violation.
