All right, at this point in time everyone needs to chill for a minute, 'cause I got some s**t to say.
Regarding the proposal in the change of our purpose, I agree with Howard Wolf and any others who want the purpose to be changed, it currently sounds too circular, the meaning behind the re-wording too insignificant from the pre-'94 purpose, and a little too long by adding that 2nd sentence.
'Nuff said.
As for the all-male chapters issue, LEAVE THEM THE FREAK ALONE!!!
Quit blowing smoke up Delta's (and the other 30 all-male chapters) behinds about how they are not being all-inclusive by admitting women. Remember the '76 Convention about all-male chapters admitting women IF THE CHAPTER SO DESIRED! That has not changed one iota since so put it to bed.
I pledged an all-male chapter @ Kent State in '92. Yes, the chapter was reactived post-'76 (5/4/85) but there was one female recharter brother named Dorothy Anderson? Some brothers have balked at me saying that we have barred future women from being admitted. I say that no women have ever expressed an interest in joining our chapter. Most likely that was because since we was an all-black chapter as well (and thus viewed by the campus as a "black" fraternity), there is an unwritten, needless-to-mention Black Greek code that says that "frats are for men, sororities are for women. Period."
Needless also to say, that many of the women followed suit on that code.
I give props (kudos) to the all-male chapters for wanting to keep their traditions after all the sturm und drang that has been encountered over the past 20 years. Some of which is DELTA chapter (Italian Stallion, I have admired your posts and respect where you are coming from when you are posting info. Hang tight, and don't give up the fight), Pi Zeta chapter, Kappa Psi chapter, Sigma Pi chapter, Kappa Delta, and Tau Zeta, to name a few. Those colleges are Auburn, Tuskeege, NCA&T, Prairie View A&M, FAMU, and Texas Southern, respectively. They also need to hang in there as well. No, I am not slamming co-ed chapters, but I am giving support to chapters who have been slammed and in no way deserve it.
Now for the Boy Scouts. I was a member of Troop 029 circa 1981. I was active for a VERY short time. My troop went inactive c. 1985. BUT I read the Boy Scout Handbook cover to cover like it was the Bible. I am proud to have been a scout. And I treasure deeply our founding traditions to Scouting and will fight to no end maintaing SOME sort of mutual connection between APO & BSA, even if that means having a sentence and twelve words keeping us together. A year ago I contemplated in addition to wearing the APO letters, wearing the BSA letters Beta Sigma Alpha, because it was the proposed name and because the "nickname BESA made what IMHO was an acronym all APO brothers could accept, irrespective of the BSA traditions: Brothers Everywhere Serving All.
Tell me whatcha think.
