Hi all,
I have been reading the flood of messages that have been
inundating the list for a week or two and I have read each one because it
is important to our organization. Everyone's statements and opinions are
valid and nothing is more important than your opinions, this is how we
each become unique people. Well here's my opinion I hope you take it just
as that, my opinion.
What is concerning me is that these opinions have crossed a line
into personal attacks. We are a family of people that have joined APO for
a reason...to better ourselves, our communities, and our world. This,
along with the fun and friendships involved are the reason I have been
involved in this organization since I started College. APO has been one
of the most important things in my life and I am now in the process of
helping to get APO started at NAU because there was a part of my life
missing when I transferred here and there was no chapter.
I am also an Eagle Scout and in the OA and both are still a part
of my life. When I look at the current members in this group and at other
members I have known I see that Boy Scouts was not a part of their life.
While I would not force scouting on anyone I do not beleave that anyone
would not be better for following the principles of the oath and law.
I believe in the BSA and their values and try to live up to them
but APO is different than the BSA. We cannot force the oath and law on
to our members as a guideline for life that is their own decision. The
ideals in the oath and law however, are constant to any moral beliefs.
They are very strong ideals and I believe they are the ideals APO should
subscribe to. I do not agree with the BSA view on homosexuality or
belief in a god, but the oath and law are general beliefs and something I
hope we can stop fighting over and look at them as a great and useful
guideline to live a better and more satisfying life through service,
fellowship and APO.
