Hello Brothers.

I had a few questions and/or points that were brought up during the recent
discussion we've had about Scouting.

Was Frank Reed Horton in Order of the Arrow? I don't beleive that he was.
Many have drawn that conclusion by the perceived similarity between our
ritual and theirs. FRH wrote the original initiation ritual for APO, and
I do not beleive that he was in OA.

Another point I want to make is that Alpha Phi Omega has NEVER been "tied"
to scouting! We have never been "affiliated" with the BSA. That is a
fact.

We have what should be termed as a "friendship" or a "working
relationship" with that particular organization. I just want to make sure
we are talking about the same things. We may have changed some of the
wording in our documents, but the relationship NEVER changed!!!

The point has also been raised that some brothers would like to see
representatives from the GSUSA, or other organizations such as Campfire,
have voting membership on our board like the BSA does.

My *understanding* (and I could be wrong) is that nothing in our by-laws
prevents this. We just do not currently have those organizations
represented on the board. My hope is, that we will be able to build
relationships with these groups such that, in the future, they will accept
our invitation to take a seat on our board.

I would also like to say, that while I respect and appreciate the Scout
Oath and Law, and indeed, hold them dear to my heart, I find that the
Brotherhood Oath of Loyalty and Service is far more central to what Alpha
Phi Omega is about, and what brothers should strive to uphold.

There. I'm done.
