I think our Honorary Membership is a great assest to the
fraternity. Drexel has had a number of past President's of the University
as brothers (a few were even charter members). The chapter even honored my
Grandfather for his years of selfless community service by making him a
brother (something he has charished greatly).
I do not believe that just, because someone raises to the top
office of a college or unversity that they necessarialy display and follow
the principles of Alpha Phi Omega. Even after my presentation of quite a
respectible resume of Leadership, Friendship, and Service for my
Grandfather, it was not until a few of the brothers had a chance to meet
him and report back to the chapter did the chapter agree to approve his
brotherhood (and not that he lives 4 hours away from our chapter). I was a
little dissappoint when the chapter turned down my orginal request, but
have come to respect there decision and greatly appreciate the effort put
in to see to it that he did follow our principles. I hope that each
chapter does the same type research before granting brotherhood.

>There is some question over how effective this is, since we are not even sure
>>if the Chacellor remembers that he is a brother,

This line particularly saddened me. I think brotherhood should be
charished by all, and those who do not lessen the title for the rest of us.
Brotherhood should not be granted lightly.

In close: this chapter my confer honoray membership upon persons who have
contributed significantly to the ideals and purposes of Alpha Phi Omega.
