At the beginning of this debate, I was very vocal about my feelings on
this subject. I decided to take a step back since it seemed like most
people involved in this debate are alumni.

I think that some great things were said in this post and I would like to
expand upon them. He brought up the 3 resolutions that are on the floor
for Nationals. He forgot 2. Briefly.

R-5 and R-6 which Fuzzy mentioned basically make the students choose.
R-5 says the "1976 Gentelman's Agreement" is no longer in force and is null
and void.R-6 is, in reality, a reinforcement of the status quo but IN
WRITING.

What Fuzzy forgot to Mention is R-7 and R-8.

Refernce # R-7
Be it resolved that: The 1998 National Convention Rules and Credentials
Reference Committee deny certification to those chapters not in good
standing due to their violation of Alpha Phi Omega's published Membership
Policies. The Rules and Credentials Reference Committee will disallow any
unwritten agreement between the Fraternity and any other entity.

Reference #: R-8

Be it resolved that:
The National Spirit and Standards Committee recommend to the 1998
National Convention the revocation of the charter of any chapter not in
compliance with the Fraternity's published Membership Policies. The
National Spirit and Standards Committee will disallow any unwritten
agreement between the Fraternity and any other entity.

R-7 would force change in 2 years or face a lack of representation
at the 1998 Convention. R-8 would propose charter revocation if
chapters don't comply with the Fraternity's published Membership
Policies. I.E. if the membership policy says membership open to all.
All-Male chapters would be in violation of the published Membership
Policies.

R-13 is very similar to R-7 and R-8.

I am not going to discuss what will need to happen for these to pass and
everything that goes into them because frankly, I don't think I could do
it as well as your chapter advisor or as your regional director. If you
have questions about how resolutions pass and what it takes, please ask
them.

What voting delegates should do is discuss these withing the chapter. Voting
delegates this year are faced with the tough issue of deciding should
all-male chapters be forced in the future to go co-ed or do we put
in writing into our bylaws the 1976 Gentleman's agreement.

We have heard ALOT of debate on this issue among the list. Some people
saying that it is not fair to women, some saying why not let the chapters
choose.

It is an issue that needs to be discussed with your chapter. It will
cause some heated debate at co-ed chapters, but each chapter needs to
think about these issues before Nationals and before finals.

Sorry about the Rambling
