I have been watching this argument go on and on. As long as there is a
similar organization on the campus, there should be no concern for
lawsuits.
Also, the all-male chapters are not in violation of our bylaws. Any
governing body is allowed to grandfather existing chapters. Look at the
history of raising the drinking age for alcohol. The government
grandfathered all those who were over the original age, but not over the
new age in the law. Once this group no longer existed, there was no
reason to keep it grandfathered. Another case is people who have been
using marihuana for medicinal purposes. Yes, there are still a few
people in this country who are allowed to continue its use, as they are
grandfathered.
Now, as soon as either of these groups disappear(ed) the grandfathering
will be taken off the books. I propose we do the same with the all-male
chapters. Leave them grandfathered until the last all male chapter no
longer exists. =)
