St. Louis U. - Parks College - Theta Xi (49)
Campus being remerged with main campus & co-ed chapter
all-male chapter becoming social fraternity...
The two campuses have never been together before. To say they're being
remerged is a mis-statement.
Parks College has had a very active, albeit fairly small all male chapter for
many years. Usually no more than a dozen or so brothers active at any one time.
The surviving chapter at the main campus had the chance to do the right thing
and incorporate these brothers in as a unit but chose not to. It is this fact
more than anything that is compelling the Theta Xi brothers to dissolve their
brotherhood with APO in favor of a social greek letter organization.
Forcing viable all male chapters to go co-ed serves no one. The chapters, if
forced to go co-ed will very likely cease to exist on these campuses. I assure
you, they will self destruct rather than go co-ed. Case in point the
unfortunate situation at Parks. This example was forced by the merger and look
at the consequences. Read the tonality of the active discussion on this list
now. Read the words as you would hear them spoken. How much higher would the
emotions run if such a thing were mandated from within?
