Greetings Brothers,
I am beginning to get confused about this argument. Every chapter
operates in a different way, unless you have been to every chapter and
observed them firsthand then I feel that you are not qualified to pass
judgement on that chapter. We at Delta(I do not speak for any other
chapters,co-ed or otherwise, for I am not familiar with other
chapters.)feel no pressure from the community or the Univ. admin to
change our setup. As hard as Auburn has been coming down on orgs with
Greek Letters lately don't you think they would have let us know if they
were unhappy with the way we operate? We do very public service projects
in and around the community, the people of Auburn know who and what we
are, noone has voiced any concern about us being all-male. Granted
Brother Librizzi is less than eloquent sometimes but you must realize
that we feel as strongly about our position as you do about yours. We are
not the knuckle-dragging that we have been made out to be. If you want to
judge us, come on down to Delta and work with us, come to our service
projects, join us in our meetings, come with the brothers when we go to
the pledge meeting to recite the Purpose, stay with us, party with us,
and try any look at it from our perspective, when you have done all that
then I will consider your opinion of us a valid one. After you do all
that, travel to another all-male chapter and repeat the process. You will
see that we are all different, not worse, not better, just different.
Since I have been on this list I have heard several people quote "The
Golden Rule" and apply it to All-Male chapters. To gain respect you have
to give respect, during the last part of my pledge period I was asked if
I initiated, would I trust all the Delta brothers. This may shock you but
my answer was "No I wouldn't, how can I trust all the Delta brothers when
I don't know all the Delta brothers?". Granted I would do my damnest to
work with and help those brothers with everything in my power but to me
trust is different. I cannot judge someone I have not known, all we ask
is the same treatment. Judge not a person until you have walked a mile in
his shoes.
P.S. -- I apologize for my slight rambling but I just got off work and am
slightly tired.
