You bring up an extreme case. I wasn't referring to felonies.. I was
referring to simply disagreeable personalities.
Provided a person fulfills the requirements, commits no crimes, civil or
criminal, and commits themselves to the cardinal principals etc.., there is
no reason to exclude them. Over the past week or so, I have seen several
posts declaring reasons to exclude someone from active membership.. Isn't
this backwards ? Search for reasons to exclude only if you are perfect.
Now, for the topic of "ulterior motives" What are these ? To meet others
(even, if it only means meeting members of whatever gender) ? Why not ?
Some pledge for that reason...Fellowship. Get them involved in the other
two principles. If they're not interested....they'll go away soon enough.
What about resume padding ? I've held a few jobs, and no prospective
employer has, to my knowledge, ever checked up to see if I was really in
Alpha Phi Omega. Preventing resume padding is therefore pointless, since
someone could claim membership on a resume anyway, and PROBABLY get away with
it. Again...bring them in...make them WANT to stay and serve.
After all....wasn't Frank Reed Horton's purpose inspired by young men in
trouble ? Can anyone imagine him saying : "You're a troublemaker.....there's
no place for you here."
Again, let me reiterate that I am not speaking of rapists, murderers or
theives....I am only speaking of merely disagreeable persons.
Hope that clears up any confusions or misperceptions as to my point....I'm
sure y'all will let me know if it doesn't. :)
