Not quite. But within four hours are Raleigh-Durham, Roanoke, DC, and
Baltimore and that is definitely a whole boatload of people.
What people need to check out though is not so much the chapters in the
area as the viability of the site. 2000 is going to be a HUGE convention.
What we're probably looking for is a convention center and two adjoining
hotels... remember, we filled the Phoenix Hyatt with only about 1800
attendees. An east-coast site will attract more to begin with, plus the
anniversary will bring alumni. We could be looking at more than 2700
people. In other words... this place has to be ready for an onslaught.
Anyway I'm sure somewhere in Region III will qualify... Tidewater or
Charlotte (Baltimore could handle it too but has little APO activity).
I'm inclined to think we shouldn't look into DC, since it hosted in 1984,
or just two cycles ago.
