While this may seem like a worthy project, I wonder if it indeed is
valid. In my younger days, a popular myth was that pull tabs (yes, cans
actually had tabs that came off) donated to a hospital would buy time on a
kidney dialysis machine for some child. These rumors were false and
frustrated many hospitals who had well intentioned but misinformed people
turning in pop can tabs.
I would encourage everyone to check out the source to see if indeed this
is true (the source in this case would be the publishing company, not the
sender of the original mail) before promoting the event.
