It occurred to me that regardless of who goes to the President's Summit
on volunteerism -- it is going to be in the newspapers -- and it provides all
of us the opportunity to respond with letters to the editor and op-eds that
address some of the issues we are concerned about. i.e. promoting
volunteerism is great, we're all for it, but who's going to screen, train,
etc., etc. Experienced vol. mngrs are in every community and can be a
tremendous help in this endeavor -- however they can't do much without
additional resources.
What an opportunity to move volunteer issues out of the life section and
raise awareness about the substance of the issues we have expertise in.
Anyone interested in putting our heads together and working out a sample
op-ed piece? Then each of us would have something we could send to the major
newspapers in our area or state -- Imagine, you, the guest editorialist in
the Sunday Edition!
I'm sure we couldn't create anything anyone could use verbatim, but it
would be great to have something to start from that the best minds in the
field of volunteerism have contributed to. . .
