Well, I'm not sure if my chapter (Gamma Zeta- Georgia Tech) gets those
kind of letters or not, but we only have about 15 or so active members
this quarter and we had about the same last quarter, even though we
initiated 8 new pledges. However, we have some 50-60 brothers in the
chapter- a large majority went inactive (mainly due to the huge time
constraints that classes create here). I know there are several chapters
smaller than that, but I definitely think that this is a pretty small
chapter, especially considering the large number of students there are at
the campus and that there is lots of campus housing.

Now, coming up with ideas to help Gamma Zeta is not easy. You have to
take into consideration that this is a technical school with huge demands
from classes and so time is one of our worst problems. And of course,
what's one of the biggest aspects of APO? Spending time to serve others.
We have tried all sorts of things to improve membership and it seems that
everything fails. We've done a CPPC (it was long and got monotonous
and it didn't seem to work), we've tried bringing committees
back (we usually don't get much, if any, attendance), we've tried
different things for rush (like having a piniata or going ice-skating),
we've tried bringing food to meetings (gets a little expensive after
awhile), and we've tried all sorts of publicity. Several members of the
chapter have discussed this with advisors, section chair, region chair,
people at CPW, Regionals, and Nationals and we still aren't getting
anywhere. Although, because of all the things we've tried, I can probably
help out other chapters :) But if anyone else on here goes to a technical
school like GT and have ideas on what we might do to improve membership or
if anyone else has some good ideas that perhaps noone in my chapter has
thought of, please lmk, and if it's something others might benefit from,
please post on APO-L. Thanks,
-Martin

btw, this was a great discussion to start up. Something I think many
chapters can benefit from.
