Erika,
I just spent part of my night evaluating my own chapters bylaws,
and it just so happens that we discussed this problem. The way that Maine
Maritime deals with the fact is this...
Brothers are required to attend 2 meetings every four weeks and
meet the service requirement. Any brother not meeting the requirements
to be an active brother become inactive members. I'm not sure if this a
category unique to MMA, but if there are outstanding circumstances a
brother can petition for associate status. This will allow a brother to
participate in initiation, concalve, and social events. Associate members
are still required to meet the service requirements. Inactive members are
denied many of the previledges that we accord to brothers in our chapter.
I'm curious to know how many of your brothers actually attend all
meetings.
I hope that this answers some of your questions, and gives you
something to compare your policies with.
