What the hell... this is something that's come up before, and I'm
sure will come up again. And I don't have much else to do, so I'll
share my views.

The actual alchohol policy (as per the membership policies) was
posted a few days ago. You may have noticed its a little vauge, but
I've been told this is intentional, to allow chapters room for
interpretation. Its probably a good idea for your chapter to make a
definitive alchohol policy of its own. I know my chapter (in recent
semesters) has come up with the following: No alchohol will be
served by the chapter at chapter events. This means that we often do
have alchohol availible (in the form of a cash bar) at events like
banquets, but we don't serve it ourselves.

The best you can do, I think, is take the spirit of the alchohol
policy and use your common sense. This fraternity is not a police
organization. If a couple of brothers are hanging out at a bar, and
some pledges show up, don't go all psycho. However, taking your
little brother out to get trashed is probably a bad idea. Use common
sense and remember that your actions may potentially reflect on the
fraternity. We teach our pledges the "5 S's" about wearing thier
pledge pins, and I think it applys for brothers wearing letters or
pins as well. We tell pledges they don't have to wear their pins
during Sleep, Shower, Sports, Sex, and STUPIDITY. Bottom line, use
common sense. I know its hard for some people, but try. And most of
all, don't stress too much. If you can manage to keep brothers and
pledges out of dangerous situations (both physically and legally),
nothing else is worth going psycho over.

Just my opinion,

Peter
