You're right that drinking has nothing to do with LFS. Likewise, LFS has
nothing to do with drinking alcohol; they are independent behaviours and
none influences the next (although it could be construed that alcohol
enhances/detracts from fellowship, depending on your view).
But (and this really kills me) some of MY brothers enjoy calling
"unofficial APhiO" events AT APHIO MEETINGS. As I understand, this isn't
limited just to my chapter--and Davis is a relatively dry school. No
matter what the rule, people will find ways to sneak a drink, bend the
rules, take the unnecessary risk. Not smart, nor scrupulous, but still
very real--no matter how hard we try to stomp it out.
I think the question remains: How can Chapters develop Risk Guidelines
that provide for the responsible consumption of alcohol and minimize
irresponsible drinking? Furthermore, what clauses should we include to
protect ourselves, our chapter, and our Fraternity if an incident should
arise? What resources are available to us and how should we word these
Risk Guidelines to make them an acceptable legal document?
