Its not like that everywhere Bill. Here in Section 23, we (Staff) are
focusing on how to help our smaller chapters gain more members. We are also
attempting to get a petitioning group at the University of MN- Twin Cities
campus as well. BOTH are important in the interests of staff as well as
other chapters. Part of what can be done is to pair up a small chapter in
your Section to a larger one and have them swap recruitment/membership ideas.
What chapters must realize is that they need to actively recruit other
students. If this is done door to door (if allowed on campus), flyers
everywhere, table times, have an event that could include all students on
campus. My former chapter, Nu Mu, sponsored a freshmen barbeque an attracted
a huge amount of interest and new members that year and its been tradition
ever since. Chapters must make themselves seen and heard, not just expect
for people to seek them out. Its almost like, whomever makes the most noise
wins attitude.
IF you need to bounce a few ideas, feel free to send them my way.
