I believe that the closest thing that you will find to an official policy is
to read the Risk Management Policy set forth by Nationals and your own
chapter's bylaws.  I don't think that the wearing of pins and letters are
addressed directly but rules about when and who can drink are addressed
there.

The rest, in my opinion, is about respect.  I respect the fraternity and
would therefore not want to do anything that could reflect on the fraternity
in a negative light.  I think the reason that many Brothers, as a matter of
course, do not wear their pins when drinking is that it's easier to draw the
line before the first drink and avoid any grey area that may be involved.
 But then again, that could just be me :-) .
