Day 1 has ended in the relief efforts and the phone-a-thon went great.
There were 10 phones, manned by citizens such as: Representative Lloyd
Doggett, Austin Mayor Bruce Todd, several radio personalities (Julie B,
Capt. Mike, Sandy) and K-EYE TV sports reports Andy Loscano. Oh, and I
was there too, representing APO. The phones didn't stop ringing for 3
hours, and they are estimating $20,000 for the National Disaster Relief
Fund. Personal note: Dave B. -- I think I found my calling...
Kari V. asked about weekend relief efforts, and right now I don't have any
information. As soon as I know anything, I'll pass it on.
Much more critical is the Donation Drop-off that starts tomorrow at 6 am
and runs through 6:30 pm both Thursday and Friday. I'm trying to schedule
myself
to take off Friday so I can help, and if anyone can donate their Friday,
I know it would be greatly appreciated. They need volunteers on
Friday!! This donation dropoff center is being sponsored by KVUE 24,
KVET radio, and benefits the Am. Red Cross, Greater Austin Food Bank, the
Austin chapter of the Salvation Army.
As always, if you have any questions, call me.
In Leadership, Friendship and Service,
Michael
