Jamie,
Maybe you could post this for me. I belong to apo-l, but for some
reason, it's not letting me post anything. Thanks! Melissa
Jeni and anyone else who's curious,
Hi my name is Melissa Stricker. I'm the past historian of the Zeta Beta
Chapter and 50th Anniversary Chair. I'm currently putting together our
chapter's family tree for our 50th anniversary celebration. I
understand what you mean about the tree not being a normal family
structure. This is what I've found...There's a program called FAMILY
TREE MAKER by Banner Blue Software. I don't know how your chapter is
set up, but ours has two big bros for one little brother. So each
brother can have many many co-big brothers. The way I worked it was
that I just used the big brothers as spouses and the little as a child.
While you enter them as spouses and children, when the visual family
tree is printed out, there are no titles, so it looks normal. You can
have multiple spouses which fixes the problem of one person having many
little brothers with different brothers.
You can also put pictures and other information such as initiation
dates, offices held, etc. on the tree and store the information just for
history. The pictures will run as a slide show and you can edit them as
well.
You can also type in a person and get all thier ancestors or descendants
and there's a mailing label program as well.
Let me know if you want more information. I'd be glad to help anyone.
My address is mstricke@vt.edu.
