At Alpha Phi Chapter at Wash U, we typically have two retreats per
semester: a pledge retreat and an active retreat. The pledge retreat is
held early in the pledging semester, and is usually an afternoon on campus
where the pledges (and actives) get to know each other and about APO
through games and activities. The active retreat is a similar kind of
event, but for the actives. In recent semesters, the active retreat has
been an overnight camping trip (brothers who couldn't spend the night
could come the next day for activities).
As for the different games and activities we do at the retreats,
they're pretty varied. There are APO trivia contests usually. We do
group problem solving (where everyone holds two other peoples hands and
then try to untangle the knot into a circle, etc), leadership building,
getting-to-know-you games. The chair(s) of each retreat decide what games
and activities to do.
Though more people are able to attend retreats held on-campus, the
off campus ones have been big hits for the people who were able to go.
