Debunking the DCAAO

Unfortunately, it has been seriously suggested that the DCAAO
(Washington DC Area Alumni Organization) be debunked. After 2 solid
years (officially) as an Alpha Phi Omega alumni organization, physical
membership has been zero, except for a small handful of dedicated
founders. All fundraisers, service projects, and social gatherings,
specifically planned by and for the DCAAO have all been failures. It is
my opinion that alumni find us inconvenient and a burden.
However, the e-news list and the web page have proven very useful to
area (and out-of-area) alumni. If the DCAAO becomes debunked the e-news
list and the web site would simply come under Section 84 staff control
(of which I am a member) as the "DC Area alumni web site". So, don't
worry, if you're on that list that aspect of the DCAAO will only change
minorly.
Please respond with your input, and please keep all suggestions as
realistic as possible. Please also remember that the DCAAO has a
negligible budget and nothing involving money can be done.
Our current President, MaryGrace SylvesterGagliardi, strongly agrees
with these viewpoints and "wants out".
I personally want out as well. We cannot keep paying annual membership
dues to the national office and masquerading as an organization when
there are only 2 real members, the President and her Secretary.
This day has been coming for a very long time, and this is neither a
personal decision, nor a quick one. After 2 years of experience
dedicated to running an unsuccessful organization, it is our
professional opinion to just let it go.
All inquiries into this matter should go directly to me.
(NOTE: For those who don't realize, today, August 28th, 1997, is the
second anniversary of the DCAAO being recognized by our national office,
and so we have been operating for _exactly_ 2 years to this day).
On a personal note, it will be sad to see the DCAAO go, but it might be
best for everybody to just let go and move on to something that does
work. I apologize to those who have come to feel attached to the
organization.
