I have am in a little of a bind. My grandfather was honored
several years ago (and trust me he feels honored) by becoming a honorary
member of the fraternity. He went to college at St. Lawrence U. in NY
(which has a chapter now), but attended before there was anything by the
name of APO. As far as I am concerned (and those of brothers from my
chapter that insisted on meeting him before bestowing the honor) my
grandfather fully demonstrates what I feel a brother of APO should.
Here is my problem. I went up to see him and my grandmother last
weekend (my grandmother is having an operation, which the outcome of which
very much concerns me). He mentioned to me that he has not gotten any mail
from APO after becoming a member and wonders if it is because of his lack
of paying dues. He even asked if there was a newsleter. I said that I was
not sure why he was not getting mailing and that I had paid his dues. Upon
asking how much, I told him that I had paid $10 (actually, I paid the $5
fee for Honorary members and the $10 fee for our local alumni association),
which he immediately repaid me for.
My grandparents are really getting on in age. My grandmother has
surprised everyone by living as long as she has. I would love more than
anything to see that my grandfather get a copy of the T&T every month.
Unfortunately, I do not have the $80 it takes to make him a life member (I
just graduated in June and do not have a permanant job and $700 in student
monthly loan payments) and I will not ask them for the money for fear that
they will pay it, without regard to there current financial situation.
I am currently a Life Member. I considered having my addressed
changed to his address so that my T&T would be sent to him (seeing that I
am still active enough with the local chapters that I could probably read
one of their copies most months), but decided against it when I realized
that it would still have my name on it.
        Does anyone have and suggestions?

Oscar
