Wow!
We had a large debate within our chapter this fall about
instituting dues for brothers. Our bylaws state that dues have have to be
renewed every year by a vote of the brothers. This is the second year
that we have had dues. Although, hopefully it will be last. Our chapter
dues are $15 which covers the brother fees and helps to offset the cost of
pledges.
Until recently, the chapter paid all brother fees, but a the rapid
growth of the chapter over the last three years has put too large of a
strin on the finances for that practice to continue. Our chapter get NO
money from the Academy. We get all of our money through activities
throughout the year. We still do all of the stuff that many chapters do
without having to charge large dues. This has kept our chapter accessable
to everyone that wants to be a part. We don't charge pledges for the
right to check out our chapter. It is working for growth so far.
Just my 3 cents worth.
