NOTE: I made this post before, but I wanted to do it again in order for more
chapters to see it also.

The Elf

"Twist me and turn me and show me the elf; I looked in the water and saw
myself"

The Elf is something I created to bring good cheer to the chapter. It
represents brotherhood, and the impact it can have on an individual brother.
Before I continue, though, let me give you a bit of history on how I
came up
with this idea.
There was a point in time when I learned that I would be leaving my
college and chapter. Needless to say, leaving isn't easy; especially when
these people mean
everything in the world to a brother like myself. I wanted a way to continue
doing service to my chapter, so I created the Elf. I later decided that it
would be more beneficial to do it for more chapters in my section since my
section wasn't that large. I have mentioned the "elf" to some brothers in
other regions, and the response has been tremendous. Currently, we have
brothers in Florida, Illinois, Virginia, Massachusetts, and New York
interested in creating an "elf" for their chapter.
Now, you may be wondering what the elf actually does. The job of the
elf is to make sure that brotherhood is everpresent within the chapter.
Ways to do this include birthday signs/cards (homemade are GREAT),
induction/initiation congratulation signs, treat bags during finals, etc...
Anything really. Even an e-mail to let the brother know you care can make a
huge impact. Mainly, the elf makes sure that all brothers have that warm,
fuzzy feeling we all like to get.
The elf must stay ANONYMOUS. That is critical to the success of the
elf. I suggest that this be an appointed position, and that one of the
elected officers (President/Membership VP) appoint it. Only these two
brothers will know the identity of that term's elf. If a new elf is
appointed the next term, the previous elf must never reval that they were the
elf.
I am, as you may have noticed, trying to stay anonymous myself because I
would like to remain a secret. Some of you already know who I am, and if you
do, please do not reveal who I am.
If you have any questions/comments/concerns, please e-mail me at
APOelf@AOL.com or post it on the APO-L. I would actually prefer it be posted
on the APO-L, but whatever you prefer is fine. Thanks.

In L, F, and S,
